PERSONAL PLASTIC
Temporary Services. Photocopied and offset publications, mounted photographs, banners made from plastic bags, unwanted plastic bags.
2007
Illinois-based collective Temporary Services was formed in 1998 and currently includes artists Brett Bloom, Salem Collo-Julin and Marc Fischer. Temporary Services writes “We’re surrounded by plastic shopping bags. They perch in the branches of our trees like vultures on the make. They clog our sewer grates and stick to the bottoms of our shoes and tires.” For Off The Grid, their installation Personal Plastic simultaneously demonstrates the ubiquitousness of this wasteful consumer byproduct as well as suggests mechanisms for reuse.
