Transmission Artist
BRETT IAN BALOGH
Brett Ian Balogh is a Chicago-based artist working at the intersection of objects, sounds, and spaces. His work involves the creation of instruments, systems, and environments that posit alternate relationships between ourselves and the world we inhabit. Balogh is currently interested in the ways that radio transmission and reception can distort the cartographies of our everyday lives. He holds a BA in biology from the University of Pennsylvania and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Balogh is currently and instructor both at SAIC and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He has shown both here and abroad, and has published in the Leonardo Music Journal. Balogh is a member of the sound performance collective, Clairaudient, and performs with the Chicago Phonographers. He is also a member of the World Listening Project and a collaborator with Locus Sonus.
