free103point9 is pleased to announce the 2010 Distribution Grant for New York State Artists providing support for the distribution of new works in film, video, sound, new-media, and media-installation. Funding is available from free103point9 through a regrant from New York State Council on the Arts' Electronic Media and Film Program. Grant awards will assist artists in making works available to public audiences and may include, but are not limited to: moving image and sound works; duplication of preview, screening and exhibition copies; promotional materials including documentation and schematics of media-installation and new-media works. The rental or purchase of equipment essential for exhibition/distribution by individual artists is also eligible. Artists may request funding support up to a maximum amount of $10,000.
Successful grantees will also be awarded the opportunity to work with a project mentor who will offer guidance as grantees execute their distribution and exhibition plans. This mentor will have expertise in the grantees' specific genre of media art.
Note:
This grant is for works that have
been fully completed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 only.
Grant funds may not be used for production or post-production
costs or production deficits.

Eligibility
Eligible:
- Grants are available only to New York State resident artists.
- The work proposed for support must have been completed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 only.
- The applicant should have all rights to distribute the work as proposed.
- Note: A sponsoring organization is not required.
Not eligible:
- Works-in-progress (including works in post-production) will not be considered.
- Students works. Note, exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for career artists who may have returned to school for post-graduate work.
Funding Criteria
Selections will be based on artistic quality and the strength of the proposed distribution/exhibition plan. A strong distribution/exhibition plan is a focused, practical, and innovative (or creative) effort to reach an work-appropriate audience.
Review Process
Applications will be reviewed by free103point9 staff for completeness and guideline compliance.
All applications will be reviewed in a manner consistent with the policies and procedures of the New York State Council on the Arts.
All eligible applications will then be reviewed by a peer panel comprised of New York State arts and media professionals. Review panelists collectively select and recommend the grant recipients to the Council. The review panel convenes in February, with grantees approved by the Council announced in March. The names of the panelists for each cycle remain confidential until after the grants are announced.
